There are many items the sculptors of the Gettysburg monuments depicted on the bronze statues that were common to the Civil War soldier. Most viewers regognize items such as swords, rifles, pistols etc. But the sculptors included many small items that we may not recognize. This page will include a few of these items and other interesting subjects in regards to the monuments at Gettysburg.

Many of the monuments at Gettysburg have bronze reliefs. These bronze reliefs can be as simple as the State Seal or more elaborate. Please see the links below for a few examples of the more detailed monument reliefs.

Gettysburg would see its 50th reunion of the battle in July, 1913. The pages below share a few images of this event as well as momentos commemorating this great gathering.

The current location of the Confederate Soldiers & Sailors Memorial was the original location selected by Helen Dortch Longstreet the wife of General James Longstreet for the Longstreet Memorial.

The Virginia Memorial is one of the most detailed memorials on the Gettysburg Battlefield. F. William Sievers using original civil war equipment would model many of these items into the monument.
